About
RIO PALME

Rio Palme is a painter based in the Indian Ocean. Focusing his pictorial approach on the conditions of use of paint, rather than on the creation of images, Rio installs the material more than he paints. He creates works that resemble fields of tension, and turn away from the decorative or illustrative.
Rio Palme proceeds by regimes of constraints, which he organizes into series, each designating different modalities of the same process: that by which colour is activated.
The idea is to validate or not what can still be seen as an image, and sometimes even to overstep its limits, or beliefs.
Each production cycle resolves nothing, remains open, maintained in a tension that is unique to it.
When he is not painting, Rio indulges in designing installations that give the act of painting a metaphorical, raw and poetic presence all at once.
In Rio, there is neither the will nor the desire to be admired, much less to create images in service of the ego.
What links all of his productions is not a style, nor a form, but a shared field of experiences and actions, in an ongoing process. Viewers are free to jump on board as they go.
